THE MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP

The mechanical fuel pump

1 – a pusher,

On engines with the carburettor without the conditioner the mechanical fuel pump is established on an engine left-hand side.

Removal and installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. For pump check to disconnect wires of a primary winding of the coil of ignition.
2. To remove a pressure head hose from the pump.
3. To turn the engine a starter. Thus the fuel stream should follow from the pump. Otherwise the pump is faulty also it it is necessary to remove.
4. To remove a wire of weight from the accumulator.
5. To remove submitting and pressure head hoses from the pump.
6. To unscrew two bolts and to remove the pump (it is specified by an arrow) from the block of cylinders.
7. If necessary to take a pusher (it is specified by an arrow).
8. To unscrew the screw and to uncover (1) and the mesh nylon filter (2).
9. To wash out in gasoline a cover, the filter and the pump.
10. Installation is made in sequence, return to removal. Thus to establish a cover on the pump so that labels (are specified by arrows) were combined, and to tighten the screw.

THE ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP ON CARS WITH ENGINES DOHC

The fuel pump is located in a fuel tank and fixed together with the gauge of level of fuel. For pump check the special equipment is required.

Removal and installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To remove a fuel tank.
2. To unscrew the block of the fuel pump / of the gauge of level of fuel (1 – the fuel pump, 2 – the gauge of level of fuel) from a fuel tank, using special tool Ford (Ns 23-014) or two crosswise screw-drivers. To remove a lining.
3. Installation is made in sequence, return to removal.

THE ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP ON CARS WITH ENGINES OHC AND V6

The pressure head union of the fuel pump

1 – the pressure head union,

2 – a submitting fuel hose,

3 – a pressure head fuel hose

On all engines with system of injection of fuel and the carburettor with the conditioner the electric fuel pump is applied. The pump is established under cars at once behind a petrol tank. At refusal of the fuel pump first of all to check up corresponding safety locks and the relay.

For check of the pump of the engine with the carburettor to disconnect a hose of giving of fuel from a regulator of pressure and to lower it in a measured vessel. To include ignition for 30 seconds and to measure quantity нагнетенного in this time fuel which should make, at least, 400 sm3.

For check of the pump of the engine with system of injection of fuel the special equipment is necessary.

Removal and installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To remove a wire of weight from the accumulator.
2. To lift a forward part of the car.
3. A clip to press a hose going from a fuel tank to the pump.
4. To establish under the pump the corresponding container, to remove pressure in fuel system and to disconnect submitting and pressure head hoses from the pump.
5. To remove from the pump an electric socket.
6. To unscrew a bolt of fastening of a collar of the pump and to remove the pump.
